Githubが無料アカウントでもプライベートリポジトリを無制限に作れるようになったという情報を受けまして、2015年から$7払い続けていた私のアカウントを無料に戻してみました。以下、手順です。
まず、Billingの設定に飛びます。

有料になってますね。 下のほうにスクロールすると「Downgrade your plan」というのがあります。無料にしたいので「Downgrade to Free」というボタンを押します。

そうすると下記のように「君ほんとに無料アカウントにしていいんか？」というダイアログが出るので「I understand. Continue with downgrade.」というボタンを押します。

これで完了です。

gitlabに移行しようとしていたのですが、これで引っ越さずに済みそうです。
